This beat tape, instrumental project, album, whatever you wanna call it, is very important to me. I've been holding on to it because I had bigger plans for what it could be but I noticed that the 25th anniversary was last week so I decided to stop being a perfectionist for once and just let these beats see the light of day.

Toonami was a huge part of my childhood and remains a big part of my life and who I am. The shows I watched on there became some of my favorites of all time and really opened the door for me venturing out into media from other countries. I'm an anime fan because of Toonami. It was just a cool time to be alive. I'm not into gushing about the past or waxing nostalgic about shit but I really do miss those evenings of turning on Cartoon Network at 5:00 pm and watching some of the best, most riveting television a young boy could ever possibly ask for.

This album is representative of my favorite block that was ever on. Programming history says it only lasted a month or two at this schedule but I feel like it was way longer. Four shows. Four BANGERS:

March-May 2003

5:00 - G Gundam
5:30 - Dragon Ball Z
6:00 - Yu Yu Hakusho
6:30 - Rurouni Kenshin

This was fucking IT man. The most action packed block of anime you could ask for. The dopest of the dope. Of course I had to pay dues to these titans. That's how the project is formatted. Three beats to pay homage to each of these fantastic shows, in that order. I would suggest to anyone who hasn't seen one or all these shows, to check them out IMMEDIATELY. Especially Yu Yu Hakusho, that's my personal favorite.

Another piece of this project is that my homies over at Negro Jump did a podcast for me pretty much live-reviewing the beat tape as it played and reminiscing about some of their memories with Toonami. It's really dope and those guys are definitely keeping the spirit alive over on their podcast, YouTube, Twitch stream, all that good stuff.
